With the arrival of a new season, most of us have a habit of organizing our clothes and swapping them out for seasonal pieces. It's the perfect opportunity to eliminate items we no longer wear and to start fresh, with a more streamlined closet containing only the pieces we know we'll reach for.
To avoid accumulating clothes we don't wear in the first place, the most important thing is to be careful when shopping. We often fall into the trap of sales, and red sale tags can convince us that we like items we wouldn't have noticed otherwise. Fast fashion is a problem that's becoming increasingly talked about, but our fast-paced lifestyles also lead to a need for quick shopping solutions. Consequently, it's alarming how many fashion brands, due to mass demand, resort to toxic, low-quality, and unnatural materials, as well as production methods. That's why it's on each of us to be aware of our shopping habits, question the sources of our items, and pay more attention to how we care for our clothes.
However, clothing we no longer want doesn't have to end up in the trash; there is almost always a way to extend its lifespan and get rid of the guilt.

REPAIR
We discard a lot of clothing because of alterations that are needed, but we never get around to them. Whether the clothing is damaged in some way or the wrong size, we usually put off the repair—which would only take a few minutes—until we finally throw the item away. Since we usually have several such items in our closets, it's best to gather them all and take them to a professional to breathe new life into them. Alternatively, with a little creativity and a needle and thread, we can give our clothes a new chance ourselves.
TRADE
Lately, we often hear about flea markets, clothing swaps, and thrift stores, which are the perfect solution for old clothes. This way, shoppers can find unique pieces they won't see on others, at more affordable prices. On the other hand, anyone with extra clothes can find places that will buy them or at least find them a new home.

CHARITY DRIVES AND DONATIONS
Donating clothes probably provides the best feeling when getting rid of old clothing, as you simultaneously support a charitable cause, help preserve the environment, and get rid of unnecessary garments. There are certainly many ways and resources near where you live, so it won't be a problem to find ways to help.
RECYCLING
As a last resort if we can't find another use for the clothes, the best way to recycle them is to put them in textile recycling bins. They are a relatively common sight in cities, so they are available to everyone, allowing you to dispose of them without environmental guilt!
